Reduces file size for sharing or uploading

How to use the Compress Image converter

  1. Drop or choose one or more images.
  2. Press Convert to compress them.
  3. Download each smaller image.

What you can convert

Drop in JPG, PNG and WEBP images. You can add several files at once and convert them together, which saves time when you are working through a whole folder.

The result comes back as a smaller image at the quality you choose.

Why run it in your browser

Most online converters work the same way: you upload a file, it lands on somebody's server, gets written to a temporary folder, and is deleted afterwards. That is fine right up until the day you are converting an unreleased product mockup, a signed contract, or a client's bank statement — because all you get is a promise, not a fact. Compress Image here never sends your file anywhere. The conversion runs with JavaScript inside the page you are already looking at, so the bytes never leave your device. That is why there is no upload bar, no "file too large" ceiling, and nothing left behind on a server to delete. There is no account to create and no watermark to remove. It also keeps working offline once loaded, which matters on a train or a patchy office Wi-Fi.

Good to know before you start

Shrinking a photo too far shows artefacts. Around 75-80% quality is the sweet spot for sharing.

Keep the original file until you have checked the output. If the result is not what you expected, try one of the related tools below rather than converting the same file repeatedly.

Common questions

Will image quality drop noticeably?
There's a modest quality trade-off, tuned to keep images looking sharp while meaningfully reducing file size.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes — add as many as you like and each gets its own compressed download.

Need this built into your own product?

These tools cover one-off jobs. If you need a converter inside your app, a pipeline that handles thousands of files, or a team set up with the right tooling, that is a build job — and we do those.
