Image to Base64

Convert any image into a Base64 string for embedding in HTML, CSS or JSON.

Drop a file here, or click to browse

No upload — everything runs in your browser

How to use the Image to Base64 converter

  1. Add your image.
  2. It is encoded to Base64.
  3. Copy the data-URL from the result.

What you can convert

Drop in JPG, PNG, WEBP and other images. You can add several files in one go and convert them together, which saves time when you are working through a whole folder.

The result comes back as a .txt file of Base64 data URLs. Saves Base64 data-URLs as .txt.

Why run it in your browser

Most online converters work the same way: you upload a file, it lands on somebody's server, gets written to a temporary folder, and is deleted afterwards. That is fine right up until the day you are converting an unreleased product mockup, a signed contract, or a client's bank statement — because all you get is a promise, not a fact.

This converter never sends your file anywhere. The work happens with JavaScript inside the page you are already looking at, so the bytes never leave your device. That is why there is no upload bar, no "file too large" ceiling, and nothing left behind on a server to delete.

There is no account to create and no watermark to remove. It also keeps working offline once loaded, which matters on a train or a patchy office Wi-Fi. If you are converting the same kind of file constantly, an automated pipeline is the better route — that is what our software solutions are for.

Good to know before you start

Base64 adds about a third to the file size. It is for embedding, not for shrinking.

Keep the original file until you have checked the output. If the result is not what you expected, try one of the related tools below rather than converting the same file repeatedly.

Common questions

Why do developers need Base64?
It lets you embed images directly in HTML, CSS and API payloads.
Does it reduce quality?
No — encoding is lossless; the string is just bigger.

Need this inside your own product?

These tools cover one-off jobs. If you need a converter built into your app, a pipeline that handles thousands of files, or a team set up with the right tooling, that is a build job — and we do those.
